TAKE A WALK ON THE WILD SIDE AT TRENTHAM MONKEY FOREST

A totally unique wild-life experience Unique in the UK, and only four in Europe, Trentham Monkey Forest is a totally different and exhilarating walk through wildlife experience that transports guests into the heart of the ‘freerange’ home of 140 Barbary macaques. The monkeys roam absolutely unhindered in 60 acres of forest and visitors can literally step into their home – no bars, no barriers – it’s like walking into a small part of Morocco or Algeria!

Based on his family’s hugely successful European parks, Monkey Forest is run by Guillaume de Turckheim, and aims to provide guests with a unique insight into a highly endangered species. The monkeys live freely in a setting similar to their natural habitat in Morocco. Visitors can observe them at very close quarters, journeying through the forest on a specially cleared pathway which will bring them within meters of these fascinating monkeys. Along the way are knowledgeable guides to tell you about the Barbary macaques, answer questions and give feeding talks every hour.

The group is a thriving community and with six to twelve new babies arriving every year there is always an opportunity to witness so amusing monkey play and fascinating family behaviour. Monkey Forest breeding programme is critical in preserving and strengthening this vulnerable species. There are only about 10,000 surviving in the wild and Monkey Forest is strongly committed to their conservation; The European parks have already successfully reintroduced 600 monkeys back to Morocco.

   

A visit to Monkey Forest is fascinating, enriching and enormous fun! In 2008 New adventure play areas will let mini ‘monkeys’ let off steam and copy some of the antics they’ll learn from the real ones!

Monkey forest is open every day until the end of October.
